The Durham investigation, which was tasked with investigating allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election and links between Donald Trump and Moscow, has delivered underwhelming results. The investigation did not reveal systemic wrongdoing or recommend new charges, and prosecutors secured a guilty plea from a little-known FBI employee but lost the only two criminal cases they took to trial. The investigation was highly critical of FBI and justice department practices. Durham charged Michael Sussmann, a former campaign lawyer for Hillary Clinton, with lying to the FBI, but he was acquitted in May 2022. Igor Danchenko, a thinktank analyst, was also charged with making false statements to the FBI but was acquitted in October 2022.
