Transgender rights face uphill battle in state legislatures.

A controversial anti-trans bill has been passed by the Kentucky Senate after being stuffed into another piece of legislation. The bill requires school districts to form bathroom policies based on biological sex, limits the discussion of LGBTQ issues in K-12 sexual education classes, and blocks a Kentucky Department of Education recommendation that teachers refer to children by their preferred pronouns. The ACLU of Kentucky has criticized the bill, saying it targets people who simply want to live their lives. Governor Beshear has signaled that he would veto any anti-LGBTQ+ bills, but legislators can override the veto when they reconvene.
