Trump's Defense Lawyer Claims Legal Immunity and No Violation of U.S. Constitution

Donald Trump's defense lawyer, John Lauro, argued that the former president did not violate the U.S. Constitution when pressuring Mike Pence to overturn election results on January 6, 2021, or when asking the Georgia secretary of state to "find" votes in the 2020 election. Lauro claimed that Trump was simply asking for a pause during the certification process and that Trump is now immune from prosecution. Lauro also dismissed the charges against Trump as a political prosecution. Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin criticized Lauro's defense, stating that a technical violation of the Constitution is still a violation, and accused Trump of trying to steal the entire election. Trump, who is facing multiple indictments, claimed that his legal troubles are good for his presidential campaign. Prosecutors have sought a protective order to limit what Trump can share publicly, citing concerns about sensitive information.
