Trump's ongoing legal battles take center stage in Georgia GOP convention.

Georgia is expected to be a key state in the 2024 presidential election and the next setting for the ongoing battle between former President Donald Trump and law enforcement. The state GOP's continuing drumbeat that the 2020 election was stolen is not scaring off voters, according to party activists. David Shafer, the outgoing state party chairman, is also under investigation for his leadership of a meeting of alternate electors who convened in December 2020 to cast their votes for Trump. Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis is expected to announce a charging decision in early August after more than two years of investigation into Trump's attempt to reverse his defeat in the Peach State.
