"New Mexico Governor Implements Statewide Gun Control Measures to Combat Violence and Drug Epidemic"

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has declared gun violence and illegal drug use in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County as public health emergencies. In response, she has issued a new public health order that includes a 30-day suspension of concealed and open carry in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, with exceptions for licensed security guards and law enforcement officers. The order also directs various departments to conduct inspections of firearm dealers, conduct wastewater testing for illegal substances at schools, compile comprehensive reports on gunshot victims, prohibit firearms on state property, add police officers in Albuquerque, and suspend the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative.
