Texas AG Ken Paxton's Attempt to Block Court-Approved Abortion Sparks Controversy

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a petition to block a judge's temporary restraining order that allowed a woman with a fatal fetal diagnosis, Kate Cox, to terminate her pregnancy. The petition, if granted, would prevent the enforcement of Texas's abortion bans and laws as applied to Cox's current pregnancy. The Center for Reproductive Rights, which brought the case on Cox's behalf, has asked the judge to reject the appeal. Cox's case may be deemed moot if she obtains the abortion before a decision is made. Paxton's arguments against the restraining order were also included in an advisory letter to Houston hospitals, warning of potential criminal charges or fines for violating Texas' abortion laws.
