Law enforcement agencies prepare for Memorial Day Weekend DUI crackdown.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has implemented a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) during the Memorial Day weekend to reduce the number of fatal crashes. CHP officers will be assisting drivers, looking for traffic violations, and making sure people are wearing their seatbelts. They will also be paying closer attention to people who are suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Last year, 45 people were killed in car crashes in California during the Memorial Day weekend. CHP arrested nearly 900 people for DUI charges during Memorial Day weekend in 2022 alone.
