Controversy Surrounds Pride Events at Elementary Schools in Los Angeles and New Jersey

Protests erupted outside a Los Angeles elementary school during a planned Pride month assembly. Some parents protested against the assembly, saying that elementary school was too young to discuss LGBTQ+ issues. However, the assembly went on without issue and included a reading of “The Great Big Book of Families,” which includes details about different family structures including single parents, LGBTQ+ parents, grandparents, and foster parents. The school board wants to “listen and to have these tough conversations” with parents who don't support the assembly.
