Montana becomes first US state to ban TikTok statewide

Montana lawmakers have passed a bill that would ban TikTok from personal devices in the state, citing concerns that the app may be used by the Chinese government to spy on American life. The bill now goes to Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte, who has not yet indicated whether he plans to sign it into law. The measure would prohibit downloads of TikTok in the state and would fine any "entity" $10,000 per day for each time someone "is offered the ability" to access or download the app. TikTok has promised a legal challenge over the measure’s constitutionality.
