Tragic Death on Grueling Grand Canyon Hike

A 55-year-old man, Ranjith Varma, died while attempting a grueling 18-mile hike from the south rim to the north rim of the Grand Canyon national park. Despite receiving CPR from bystanders and rescue efforts, he was unable to be resuscitated. The hike, known as the 'rim to rim,' is physically demanding and can take up to 15 hours to complete. Extreme heat, combined with a lack of physical conditioning, has made it a dangerous time to attempt such hikes, resulting in several deaths in national parks across the US. Varma's death marks the ninth fatality in the Grand Canyon this year.
