Tragic Drowning of Illinois Man Stuck in Alaska's Mud Flats

A 20-year-old man from Illinois drowned in the mud flats of Turnagain Arm, Alaska, after getting stuck up to his waist in the quicksand-like silt and being submerged by the incoming tide. The area is known for its dangerous mud flats made of silt created by glacier-pulverized rocks, and at least three other people have drowned there over the years. Warning signs are posted, but some people still attempt to walk across the flats during low tide.
