NYC Implements Congestion-Reducing Tolls for Drivers

New York City has received federal approval for its congestion pricing plan, which will charge drivers extra tolls to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street in an effort to reduce traffic, improve air quality, and raise funds for public transit. The tolls could be as high as $23 a day and are expected to generate an additional $1 billion yearly to upgrade the subway, bus, and commuter rail systems. The program is set to begin in spring 2024 and has faced opposition from officials in New Jersey and taxi and car service drivers.
