Calls to Delay Maui Tourism Reopening Intensify Amidst Wildfire Evacuations

Residents of Lahaina in Hawaii have submitted a petition to Governor Josh Green, urging him to delay the reopening of West Maui to tourists due to the devastating wildfire that occurred in August, resulting in 98 deaths. The petition, signed by 3,517 locals, highlights their emotional and mental unpreparedness to welcome and serve visitors. However, Governor Green expressed sympathy but emphasized the need to help the over 8,000 people who lost their jobs due to the disaster by facilitating their return to employment.
