Bronx Bodega Shooting: 12-Year-Old Bystander Killed; Suspect Remanded on Murder Charges

A 12-year-old bystander, Jacob Freytes, the son of a retired NYPD sergeant, was killed by a stray bullet outside a Bronx bodega during a Saturday fight. William Ferrer, 45, was arraigned Sunday night on multiple charges including second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree and second-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Ferrer was remanded in custody; two other adults were wounded. The incident, described as gang-related in police filings, occurred near the Mount Eden bodega on Elliott Place and Freytes died later at a Bronx hospital.
