"Severe Storms Strike North Carolina, Causing Tornadoes and Widespread Power Outages"

The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes, an EF-1 and an EF-0, struck Harkers Island simultaneously, causing property damage and one minor injury. The tornadoes hit at 9:05 p.m., with the EF-1 tornado on the ground for a quarter of a mile and the EF-0 tornado on the ground for about a seventh of a mile. Crews are working to restore power to the area, and those affected are encouraged to contact the Carteret County Emergency Services Office for assistance.
