Mountain Lion Sightings Spark Search Efforts in Nebraska and South Dakota

Officials in Omaha, Nebraska, are searching for a mountain lion that was captured on a home security camera roaming around a residential area. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has launched a search but has been unable to locate the animal so far. According to the commission's Mountain Lion Response Plan, if the mountain lion is found within the limits of a municipality, it will be killed to ensure public safety. Mountain lion attacks are rare, and residents are advised to never approach the animal. Mountain lions are native to Nebraska but were eliminated by the 1890s. They later returned through natural expansion and can now be found in three areas in the state.
