Unusual Black Bear Sightings in Florida Beaches and Gulf of Mexico

A young black bear was caught on camera swimming in the Gulf of Mexico near a crowded beach in Destin, Florida. While black bear sightings are common in Florida and other states, they are not prone to attacking humans and most interactions pass without incident. However, in case of a bear encounter, it is important to remain calm, slowly make your way toward an exit or secure location, and avoid eye contact, running, or making sudden, startling movements or sounds. It is also advised to bear-proof any stores of food and travel in groups.
