U.S. journalist jailed for assisting Chinese intelligence

An American journalist, Thomas Pauken II, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for acting as an unregistered agent for China, after admitting to helping a Chinese intelligence handler in the U.S. and attempting to connect that handler with a Trump administration official; Pauken was paid about $100,000 over seven years to produce reports on U.S.-China relations, did not disclose any classified information, and the judge stressed the seriousness of his offenses.
