Patel, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud and illegal monetary transaction charges, used the stolen funds to buy luxury items, including a vehicle, a condominium, and expensive sports memorabilia, as well as to fuel his gambling addiction. His attorney attributed the theft to gambling losses, while the government argued that the scheme was sophisticated and driven by greed.
