Oscar Pistorius Granted Parole 10 Years After Girlfriend's Murder

Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympic runner, has been granted parole 10 years after shooting and killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius will be released from prison on January 5, 2024, with conditions including attending anger management programs, performing community service, and not leaving the area of Pretoria without permission. His parole will be in effect for five years. Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide but was later convicted of murder. He claimed he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot her multiple times through a bathroom door. Steenkamp's mother did not oppose Pistorius' parole, but expressed disbelief in his version of events.
