Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya, 29, is attempting to break the global record for the longest chess marathon in New York City’s Times Square by playing nonstop for 58 hours, aiming to raise $1 million for children's education across Africa. Onakoya, founder of Chess in Slums Africa, has played for 42 hours and is supported by a growing online and on-site audience. The current record stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds, and the Guinness World Record organization has yet to publicly comment on Onakoya's attempt.
