Boston Marathon Faces Controversy Over Police Treatment of Black Spectators.

Black running groups PIONEERS Run Crew and TrailblazHers Run Co. set up a cheer zone at mile 21 of the Boston Marathon, but were met with a large police presence after complaints were made that the spectators were encroaching on the race course. The groups, which promote running within communities of color, felt unwelcome and intimidated by the police presence. The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has since apologized and acknowledged the need to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for BIPOC communities at the marathon.
