"Elena Delle Donne to Skip Season Amid Contract Dispute and Break from Basketball"
TL;DR
Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne is unlikely to play in the upcoming WNBA season after not signing the team's qualifying offer, following a contract dispute. The two-time MVP had been at an impasse with the Mystics, who designated her as a core player, guaranteeing her the WNBA's maximum salary. With Delle Donne's decision, the team faces a transition year, having already lost point guard Natasha Cloud to the Phoenix Mercury in free agency.
