TL;DR

The Dallas Mavericks have waived center JaVale McGee, a year after signing him to a three-year contract with plans for him to start. McGee fell out of the rotation early in the season and played sparingly thereafter. The Mavericks missed the playoffs, and despite a midseason trade to pair Kyrie Irving with Luka Doncic, it didn't provide the desired spark. McGee averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 42 games last season.
