Peter Laviolette appointed head coach of Rangers.

The New York Rangers have named Peter Laviolette as their new head coach, signing him to a three-year deal worth just under $5 million per season. Laviolette most recently coached the Washington Capitals for three seasons before mutually parting ways in April. He takes over a Rangers team that struggled under former coach Gerard Gallant and failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs.
