Phillies Activate Zack Wheeler, Set for Return Start Against Braves

Zack Wheeler was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will start for the Phillies tonight against the Braves, returning seven months after surgery to remove a blood clot near his throwing shoulder and a thoracic outlet syndrome procedure. He posted a 5.85 ERA over 20 rehab innings with velocity around 92.9 mph in rehab starts, while Philadelphia’s rotation has struggled with a 5.68 ERA. To make room on the roster, Alex McFarlane was optioned to Triple-A. Wheeler’s exact performance level remains to be seen, but his return could provide a much-needed boost for a slumping rotation.
