Porsche 911 Conquers New Heights with Portal Axles

Porsche has achieved a new record by driving a stock 992-generation 911 Carrera 4S with portal axles to the highest peak of the Ojos del Salado volcano in Chile, reaching over 22,000 feet above sea level. Led by racing driver Romain Dumas, the team took two weeks to acclimate to the altitude and equipped the cars with carbon fiber seats, five-point harnesses, and special underbody protection. The portal axles increased ground clearance and reduced gear ratios, allowing for precise throttle control. The lead car also featured steer-by-wire technology for precise maneuvering on the challenging terrain.
