King had previously denied paying for a blue checkmark and giving his phone number, but later confirmed it. Gaiman argued that it's egotistical for Musk to expect payment from those who previously provided free content on his platform. Rumors suggest Musk may be giving blue checkmarks to famous folks who've spoken out against him to "divide & conquer" their support on Twitter.
