OpenAI and Microsoft face copyright lawsuit over alleged AI training infringement

OpenAI and Microsoft are facing a new copyright lawsuit filed by author Julian Sancton, who claims that the companies misused the work of nonfiction authors to train their AI models, including OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT. Sancton alleges that OpenAI copied tens of thousands of nonfiction books without permission, while Microsoft is accused of being "deeply involved" in training and developing the models. This is the first author lawsuit against OpenAI to also name Microsoft as a defendant.
