Twitter's Verification System Under Fire After Fake Accounts Receive Gold Checkmarks.

A fake Disney account, @DisneyJuniorUK, was given a verified status by Twitter's updated verification system before being suspended. The owner of the account alerted his followers, and the tweet has since gone viral. Twitter's new verification system has caused confusion, with many celebrity accounts initially losing their badges, but most of them were reinstated over the weekend. The traditional blue mark of verification now means the account is subscribed to Twitter Blue, while gold marks are reserved for organizations and businesses who pay $1,000 a month plus additional fees for subsequent accounts. Social media consultant Matt Navarra said the decision to remove legacy checkmarks was a big mistake, "possibly Elon's biggest Twitter mistake so far."
