The next version of Windows 11, 24H2, will require the POPCNT CPU instruction, rendering super old PCs that were already unsupported by Windows 11 unable to boot the OS. This change won't affect "modern" unsupported PCs released in the last 15 years, but will impact PCs with very old CPUs, such as Intel Core 2 Duo, which have been running Windows 11 unofficially. The update, based on the Germanium platform, is expected to introduce next-gen AI features and will roll out this fall.
