"Mississippi Deputies Sentenced for Torturing Black Men"

Two former Mississippi law enforcement officers, Hunter Elward and Jeffrey Middleton, were sentenced to about 20 years and 17.5 years in prison, respectively, for their involvement in the racially motivated torture of two Black men. The attack, carried out by a group of white deputies known as the "Goon Squad," involved stun guns, racial slurs, and a mock execution. Four other former officers are set to be sentenced later. The victims, Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker, have called for the "stiffest of sentences" and have filed a $400 million civil lawsuit against the department.
