Mississippi Officers Sentenced for Torturing Black Men

Six former Mississippi law enforcement officers are set to be sentenced after pleading guilty to federal charges related to the racially motivated torture of two Black men. The officers, including former sheriff's deputies and a former police officer, admitted to a total of 16 federal charges, including civil rights conspiracy and obstruction of justice. The incidents involved beating, sexual assault, and shocking the victims with Tasers, as well as shooting one of the men in the mouth. The victims spoke out about the enduring trauma, and their attorneys called for the former officers to receive the maximum sentence. The Department of Justice emphasized the need for accountability and public trust in law enforcement.
