Body camera footage has been released showing the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of Ta’Kiya Young, a pregnant woman suspected of shoplifting, by an Ohio police officer. The footage shows officers confronting Young in a grocery store parking lot, with one officer pointing a gun at her. Young slowly accelerated her car towards an officer, who was struck, prompting another officer to fire through her windshield. Young was pronounced dead shortly after. The family of Young has called for a swift indictment of the officer involved, stating that her death was avoidable and a misuse of power. The officer who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave, while the other officer has returned to duty. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently investigating the shooting.
