NYC Subway Shooting: Self-Defense Claimed in Rush-Hour Commute Incident

A violent fight broke out on a New York City subway, resulting in a man being shot in the head after a scuffle where a gun was wrestled away from him. The incident, captured on video, occurred as terrified bystanders sought cover. The 36-year-old man, who had not paid his fare and displayed signs of mental health issues, berated a 32-year-old before pulling out a gun. The 32-year-old managed to wrestle the gun away and fired multiple shots, critically injuring the 36-year-old. The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office stated that evidence of self-defense precludes them from filing charges against the shooter. Mayor Eric Adams attributed the incident to the city's mental health crisis.
