Oscar Pistorius Granted Parole, Set for January Release

Oscar Pistorius, the former Paralympic champion known as "Blade Runner," is set to be released on parole nearly 11 years after murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times through a bathroom door in 2013, claiming he mistook her for a burglar. He was sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison in 2016. The parole board has scheduled his release for January 5, 2024, and he will be monitored by authorities until his sentence officially expires. The Steenkamp family's spokesperson stated that Pistorius will have to attend therapy sessions, and while Reeva's mother did not oppose his release, she expressed concerns about his anger issues and the safety of any woman who comes into contact with him.
