Oscar Pistorius Granted Release from Prison After 10 Years for Killing Girlfriend

Oscar Pistorius, the South African former Paralympic champion who was convicted of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, has won his case at a parole board hearing and will be released from prison on January 5, 2024. Once released, Pistorius will have to attend therapy for anger management and remain under supervision without being able to leave the area of Waterkloof for five years. Reeva's mother, June Steenkamp, chose not to attend the hearing but stated in a victim impact statement that she had forgiven Pistorius. The parole board took into account various factors, including Pistorius's conduct in prison and any risk posed to the community by his release.
