Rampant Looting and Vandalism Plague Philadelphia's Retail Stores

Large groups of young people in Philadelphia broke into stores, stole merchandise, and vandalized businesses across the city. Upward of 20 people, including many juveniles, were arrested, and at least two guns were recovered. The unrest occurred after a peaceful protest calling for justice for Eddie Irizarry, who was shot and killed by a police officer last month. The police commissioner emphasized that the looters were not affiliated with the protest and referred to them as "criminal opportunists."
