Wrongfully Imprisoned Man Exonerated for 16 Years Fatally Shot by Georgia Deputy

Leonard Allan Cure, a man who was wrongfully convicted and spent over 16 years in prison before being released in 2020, was fatally shot by a sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop in Georgia. The deputy initiated the stop for speeding, and after Cure did not comply with the deputy's requests, he was tased and assaulted the deputy. The deputy then shot Cure, who later died. Cure's case was the first to be exonerated by the Broward State Attorney's Office Conviction Review Unit, and he had received compensation for his wrongful conviction. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.
