Negotiations between Microsoft and Sony are likely to result in a deal to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, according to testimony from Xbox CEO Phil Spencer and an email from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan. Sony has a direct financial incentive to keep the franchise on its platform, and Microsoft has said it wants to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. If Microsoft acquires Activision before the end of the current Publisher Licensing Agreement in 2024, it will have to negotiate a new agreement with Sony to continue offering the game on PlayStation.
