Symptoms such as sore throat, sneezing, and congestion are now more prevalent, while distinct COVID-19 symptoms like a dry cough and loss of taste or smell have become less common. COVID-19 hospitalizations are rising, but the severity of the disease is unclear, as most patients exhibit mild symptoms. Vaccination and previous infections have contributed to milder cases, and new variants appear to be more infectious but less deadly. Health officials warn of a potential tripledemic of COVID-19, flu, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) this winter and urge vaccination against all three viruses.
