Government Settles Lawsuit Over Trump's Border Family Separations

The U.S. government has reached a settlement with the ACLU to compensate thousands of migrant families who were separated at the border between 2017 and 2018 under the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy. The settlement, which needs court approval, prohibits a blanket policy of family separation for the next eight years and provides families with access to mental health resources, work authorization, and housing benefits. While most families have been reunited, around 1,000 children remain separated, and the government will continue to pay for efforts to reunify them. The settlement does not include monetary compensation.
