"Texas Enforces Child Support for Drunk Drivers Responsible for Parental Loss"

A new law in Texas requires drunk drivers who kill a child's parent or guardian in a car crash to pay child support. The bipartisan bill, known as "Bentley's Law," was signed by Governor Greg Abbott and allows judges to determine the amount of child support to be paid. Those unable to pay will be given payment plans, and even those in prison will be required to pay within the first year after release. Tennessee was the first state to pass a similar measure, and about 20 more states are considering it.
