Sam Bankman-Fried's Opposition to Remote Testimony in Ukraine FTX Trial Sparks Controversy

Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of FTX, opposes prosecutors' request to allow a Ukraine-based FTX customer, who lost a substantial portion of his life savings during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, to testify remotely in the upcoming criminal trial. Bankman-Fried's defense does not consent to the use of two-way video teleconference for witness testimony. The FTX customer is unable to leave Ukraine due to war-time laws, and even with a special exemption, travel would be complicated and time-consuming. Prosecutors argue that international witness testimony is crucial to understanding the global nature of FTX. Bankman-Fried is currently in a New York jail awaiting trial, which is set to begin soon and last until November 9.
