Judge Orders Separate Trials for Trump and Co-Defendants in Georgia Election Case

A judge in Georgia has ruled that former President Donald Trump and 16 other defendants will be tried separately from lawyers Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro in the case accusing them of illegally trying to overturn the 2020 election results. The trial for Powell and Chesebro is set to begin on October 23, while Trump and the other defendants requested to be tried separately due to readiness concerns. The judge cited the tight timetable and the need to safeguard each defendant's due process rights as reasons for the separation. The remaining 17 defendants may also be divided into smaller groups for trial.
