Texas Judge Eases Abortion Ban for Risky Pregnancies

A judge in Texas has ruled that the state's abortion ban is too strict for women with serious pregnancy complications and must allow exceptions without doctors fearing criminal charges. This ruling, seen as a potential blueprint to weaken restrictions in other Republican-led states, was immediately blocked by an appeal to the Texas supreme court. The injunction granted a temporary reprieve for physicians who, in their "good faith judgment," ended pregnancies that posed a risk of infection or were otherwise unsafe for the woman. The ruling is believed to be the first challenge to a state law brought by women who have been denied abortions since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.
