"4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Southern California, Startles Residents and Pets"

A magnitude-4.6 earthquake northwest of Malibu in Southern California caused widespread shaking felt from the coast to inland areas, with more than a dozen aftershocks reported. The quake was possibly on the Malibu Coast Fault and was felt by as many as 12 million people in the greater Los Angeles area. No significant damage was reported, and there was no tsunami warning. The earthquake coincided with the anniversary of the deadly 1971 San Fernando earthquake, and a separate magnitude-5.7 earthquake occurred on Hawaii's Big Island.
