The death toll from Hurricane Otis in Mexico has risen to 39, with 29 men and 10 women reported dead. The Category 5 storm caused widespread devastation, damaging over 220,000 homes and impacting 80% of the area's hotels. Hospitals were also affected, with flooding and damage to equipment. Falling trees and landslides resulted in road closures, and the Mexican Seismic Alert System and Acapulco International Airport were also damaged. Power outages affected over half a million homes and businesses, but electricity has been restored to 55% of those affected. Recovery efforts are underway, with around 10,000 military members deployed to assist. President Joe Biden has expressed condolences and pledged support to Mexico.
