Escaping the Flames: Evacuations Increase as Fires Spread in Canada

Record-setting wildfires in British Columbia, Canada, are expected to force more residents to evacuate as firefighters struggle to contain the unruly blazes that have destroyed properties and closed parts of a major national highway. Over 35,000 residents are already under evacuation orders, with another 30,000 under evacuation alerts. Severe drought conditions have exacerbated the fires, which have also been reported near the U.S. border and in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The province has imposed an emergency, and officials are urging residents to take immediate action for their safety and that of the firefighters. The fires have already consumed a vast area of land, drained local resources, and caused the deaths of four firefighters.
