Iceland Volcano Threat: Evacuations, Flight Disruptions, and Earthquakes

Residents of the town of Grindavik in Iceland have been evacuated and a state of emergency declared due to the imminent eruption of a volcano in the Reykjanes Peninsula. The area has experienced a sharp increase in seismic activity, with over 700 earthquakes occurring in just 12 hours. Defense walls are being built around a geothermal power plant to protect it from lava flows, and roads have been closed off. This is one of the largest evacuations in Iceland's history, and the eruption could pose a danger to the town of Grindavik. Travel warnings have been issued, and major roads and the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa have been temporarily closed. The last major volcanic eruption in Iceland was in 2010, which caused widespread flight disruptions across Europe.
